[We are too used to the benefits of competitive advantage]

People and organizations increasingly rely on each others expertise, as knowledge across fields is more interconnected than ever. But we are often not ready for this. We are so used to rely on benefits of competitive advantage, that it seems illogical – unnatural even – to share our best assets.

The resulting compromises are often not always understood of valued by the own community

[It is time consuming]

Working together with many partners can be very time consuming. Breaking down traditional silos sounds very promising, but can also result in lack of ownership and over-complications. It can be quite challenging to keep the workload manageable, effective and productive.

It is often unclear with whom we can collaborate and if we can trust those others.

Samenwerken vraagt om heel veel vertrouwen en dat is moeilijk om op te bouwen. It requires building resilient relationships. Het ongemak van onzekerheid is al heel snel een reden om iets niet te doe n.

[We close off in case of danger]

We tend to close off when we feel threatened. This is a very normal and human response to danger. Climate change and its multitude of consequences can be very overwhelming, as well as some of the other societal and economical challenges we are facing today. Whether its about closing borders, communities or our minds, the call to protect ourselves is just as strong as the call to collaborate with each other.
